"Boundaried and boundless
Alive and aware,
In this my human body
I am at one with The All that Is.
Breath in my body,
Breath of Sky,
Movement in my body, movement of sand and water,
Weight in my body, the density of creation is alive in me.
Alive in stone, wood, the heavy waterlogged weight of bull kelp.
Inner, outer and in between,
I am alive and
Aware in The All That Is." - Kate, September 2011 retreat

We are nature. Our bodies are a microcosm of the outer landscape. Leaving the modern world temporarily behind, we take the time to encounter the living dreamscape of our bodies and the natural environment in order to renew and regenerate. Each day begins somatically, exploring your inner landscape with breath, vocalization, contact, movement and stillness. Then, we venture out into the landscape, using the somatic tools as springboards for opening up your sensory mind, interacting with your surroundings, and allowing spontaneous expression to emerge. These embodied interactions with the environment are a moving meditation for becoming more present to both life within and without. Click here to read more.
Away from the distractions, constraints and schedules of daily life, this immersion in your interior and in the natural environment offers creative inspiration as well as pragmatic resources for ongoing somatic self-care. Dwelling within the creature comforts of Sea Ranch and the raw vitality of the coast, you are able to relax and enliven your body/spirit.
We conclude our time together with a special ceremony conducted by a local healer at the Pomo Indian Roundhouse to re-integrate back into life.

leadership training: This training is dedicated to providing an in-depth reflection on the explorations in the natural environment, as well as spending time deciphering the specific somatic tools, the expressive articulation, and the creative method used. Lawrence Halprin's RSVP cycles will be used as a model for generating innovative leadership strategies that can foster creativity and cultivate group cohesion through a person-centered process. Practice and theory will dance together as we follow a sequential progression of accumulating tools and developing resources to take people deep inside themselves as well as simultaneously bringing them out into relationship with the larger body of nature.
Having taught these environmental workshops for the past 24 years, I am now interested in training a new generation of practitioners to use this work in the world. The map for exploring the natural environment can be applied in various settings, making the work applicable to a wide cross-section of people. I have found this approach to be of particular interest to environmentalists, movement educators, dancers, and helping professionals in exploring a creative approach to somatics and the expressive arts in nature.
